40KVOD Index

About

An index of Warhammer 40,000 tournament matches from public broadcasts, each one linked to roughly the second its game begins.

Where the games come from

A set of channels that broadcast Warhammer 40,000 tournament play is followed, and their recent uploads are pulled. Each broadcast is then matched to the event it covers, where that can be worked out, for the detail a video description doesn’t carry: the players, their armies and detachments, and the result. Anything that can’t be established that way comes from watching the game.

How current it is

Channels are checked daily, though in practice new games only turn up around weekends, which is when the events happen. A game usually appears a day or two after its broadcast rather than the same day: finding where a match starts leans on the video’s transcript, and YouTube takes its time producing one.

The timestamps

Every game links to roughly the second its match begins, so a three-hour broadcast doesn’t have to be scrubbed through. Finding that position is done semi-automatically, and nothing about it is exact. Treat every timestamp as best effort, landing near the start of play rather than on a particular frame.

Results are hidden by default

Scores and winners are masked until you ask for them, since a table of games is a hard thing to read without learning how they ended. The control is in the header, and the choice is remembered in your browser. It stops a result being read by accident, not on purpose, since the values are in the page source either way.

Getting in touch

A game with the wrong players, armies or result, a timestamp that lands nowhere near the start of play, a channel that broadcasts tournament games and isn’t here yet, or a question about any of it: all of it is welcome at contact@40kvodindex.com.

For a correction, the link to the game says more than a description of it does. There is nothing to sign up for and no form to fill in; it is one person reading a mailbox, so a reply may take a few days.

Unofficial

A personal project, with no connection to Games Workshop, to any tournament organiser, or to the channels whose broadcasts it links to. Warhammer 40,000 is a trademark of Games Workshop Limited. The videos stay on the platforms that host them, and every link here is a link out.
